We drill to 3m for a standard classification, or up to 6m for custom investigations, to understand the soil profile and identify clay, fill, groundwater and rock conditions.

DCP / density tests

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer and density testing help us assess soil strength and compaction, providing important information for footing design.

Soil classification + wind class

We determine the AS 2870 site class, including A, S, M, H1, H2, E or P, along with wind classification where required for structural design.

Shrink/swell lab testing

Where highly reactive clay is identified, shrink/swell testing can be completed through our in house laboratory and included in the report.

What is a Site Classification?

A Site Classification assesses the soil conditions of your site in accordance with AS 2870. It identifies factors such as soil type, reactivity, fill and other ground conditions that may affect the foundation design. Your structural engineer uses this information to design the appropriate slab and footings for your project.

Do I need a Site Classification before building?

In most cases, a Site Classification is required before your engineer can complete the slab and footing design. Requirements can vary depending on your project and local approval process, so getting your site tested early can help avoid unnecessary delays.

How long does it take to get my report?

Our standard turnaround is typically 5 to 8 business days from the date of your order. You’ll receive a confirmed site visit date, and your completed report will be emailed to you once the assessment is finished.

Do I need to be on site when you visit?

No. As long as our technician can safely access the site, you don’t need to be there. We’ll confirm the visit in advance, complete the required testing and send your report by email once it’s ready.
