HOW WE WORK

Our 5-step delivery process.

1
Early-Stage Site Assessment

  • Identify site constraints before earthworks commence.
  • Conduct environmental and contamination testing to flag remediation risks early.
  • Provide clear pre-construction insights to reduce surprises and delays.

2
Ground & Material Assessment

  • Assess subsurface and surface conditions to evaluate stability, moisture behaviour and material suitability.
  • Advise on risks affecting excavation, compaction, drainage and long-term performance.
  • Test and classify soils, aggregates and site-won materials for compliance and reusability.

3
Earthworks Strategy & Planning

  • Work collaboratively with civil teams to optimise cut/fill strategies and staging.
  • Recommend use or treatment of site-won materials and identify where import is needed.
  • Support planning with PSD, MDD, CBR, reactivity and contamination reporting where required.

4
Controlled Execution & Level 1/2 Supervision

  • Oversee bulk excavation, filling, compaction and verification in line with AS3798.
  • Provide GPS-coordinated test locations for precision across horizontal and vertical control.
  • Deliver on-site testing including DCP, density, moisture, MDD (STD/MOD) and proof-roll assessments.

5
Compliance, Reporting & Handover

  • Supply all compaction, CBR, density and laboratory test results in clear, contractor-ready reports.
  • Issue Level 1/2 certification, material classifications (VENM/ENM), contamination reporting and environmental documentation.
  • Ensure you leave the project with certainty, traceability and full compliance—not unanswered questions.

CASE STUDY

NASS Services – Understanding Your Soil Conditions to Prevent Delays

A real example of customer-focused soil testing and bulk earthworks working together.

The Challenge

NASS Services faced a highly complex demolition and construction project in the heart of Sydney’s CBD — one of the most logistically challenging, high-risk environments in Australia. With strict access limitations, sensitive surrounding assets and tight timelines, the project demanded absolute precision. Staged demolition was required to pave the way for a high-value development, meaning every step needed to be right the first time.

Our Approach

IdealCorp partnered with NASS Services as both the soil testing authority and earthworks specialist, bridging the gap between laboratory insights and on-site execution. From day one, our team provided expert oversight, early-stage inspections and strategic guidance to ensure that earthmoving and piling operations could be completed safely and efficiently. By combining testing, equipment capability assessments and practical advisory, we created a streamlined approach designed to protect schedules and reduce risk.

What We Found

Our initial and follow-up inspections uncovered significant geotechnical concerns: Ground highly susceptible to subsidence and settlement. Multiple voids were detected beneath existing slabs via GPR scanning and there were low bearing capacities across key working zones. These conditions presented immediate safety and structural risks. The only viable pathway forward was a detailed remediation plan involving engineered void filling, creation of certified safe working platforms, and layer-by-layer compaction testing to bring the site to a safe, compliant and workable condition.

Customer-Focused Support

Throughout the project, we maintained clear, proactive communication with NASS Services. Our team provided ongoing reporting, site visits and real-time updates as new conditions emerged. This transparency empowered the client to make informed decisions quickly, ensuring that the remedial works aligned with both safety expectations and the project's critical timelines.

The Execution

IdealCorp mobilised rapidly, maintaining short lead times to support the fast-moving site. We oversaw and managed the complete remediation process — from controlled filling to safe levelling of the site. Our team performed continuous verification and real-time adjustments as conditions evolved, ensuring uninterrupted progress and preventing delays despite the complexity of the ground conditions.

The Outcome

Despite the geotechnical challenges, the project remained on schedule with no unexpected disruptions. The site was successfully stabilised, providing a safe, certified and verified foundation for the next stage of construction. NASS Services moved forward confidently, supported by IdealCorp’s expertise, responsiveness and commitment to delivering total certainty on complex ground.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Level 1 compaction involves full-time geotechnical supervision with testing on every layer, and a formal Level 1 Earthworks Certificate – the highest level of control and confidence.

Level 2 compaction has no continuous supervision and only minimal or periodic testing, providing less assurance and no certification. In short: Level 1 is high-control, high-confidence compaction; Level 2 is basic compaction for low-risk works.

CBR (California Bearing Ratio) testing measures the strength of soil by determining its resistance to penetration.

It’s needed to determine how well the soil can support loads from roads, pavements, slabs, and foundations.

Engineers use the CBR value to design appropriate pavement thicknesses and ensure the ground is strong enough for the intended structure/loads.

Using a NATA-accredited facility ensures your compaction testing is performed to strict, independently audited standards, giving reliable and defensible results.

Accreditation guarantees the lab follows correct test methods, uses calibrated equipment, and has competent, trained technicians.

This level of assurance is critical for compliance, engineering certification, and avoiding costly construction issues caused by inaccurate or invalid test results.
