I) Project Overview: Tasker Park, Canterbury NSW

Right on schedule ahead of the end-of-year holiday period, our team successfully completed a geotechnical assessment at Tasker Park, 15 Phillips Avenue, Canterbury NSW, for one of our long-standing and valued clients, Civille, a respected design and engineering firm.

This project forms a critical early stage of a proposed pedestrian footbridge connecting Tasker Park to Charles Street across the Cooks River. Once delivered, the bridge will significantly improve pedestrian accessibility, safety, and community connectivity in the Canterbury area.

II) Scope of Works: Geotechnical Investigation for Bridge Design

To support the proposed footbridge design, our geotechnical team carried out a targeted site investigation designed to provide reliable subsurface data for structural, environmental, and construction planning purposes.

Borehole Drilling and Field Investigation

  • Two boreholes drilled to 6.0 metres depth

  • Drilling completed using a 4×4 truck-mounted geotechnical drilling rig

  • Equipment selection allowed safe access and efficient operation within a public park environment

  • Continuous soil sampling collected for laboratory testing

This approach ensured we captured representative soil profiles while minimising disruption to the surrounding parkland and public space.

III) Laboratory Testing Undertaken

The recovered soil samples were submitted for laboratory testing to assess key engineering and environmental parameters, including:

1. Soil Aggressivity Testing

  • Determines potential corrosion risks to concrete and steel

  • Essential for durable foundation and bridge design

  • Supports long-term asset performance and reduced maintenance costs

2. Waste Classification

  • Assesses spoil material for compliant excavation, reuse, or disposal

  • Ensures adherence to NSW EPA waste management guidelines

  • Critical for environmentally responsible construction practices

3. Atterberg Limits Testing

  • Identifies soil plasticity and behaviour under moisture variation

  • Informs foundation design, earthworks, and stability assessments

  • Particularly important for river-adjacent and flood-influenced sites
